HAT IS THE ENTHRONEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART OF JEUS
“THE ENTHRONEMENT IS THE OFFICIAL AND SOCIAL RECOGNITION OF THE RULE OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS OVER THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY, A RECOGNITION AFFIRMED, OUTWARDLY EXPRESSED AND MADE PERMANENT BY THE SOLEMN INSTALLATION OF THE IMAGE OF THE DIVINE HEART IN A CONSPICUOUS PLACE IN THE HOME, AND BY THE ACT OF CONSECRATION.”(FR. MATEO, 1907)

The Enthronement is the consecration or commitment of the family to Jesus
Christ as the enthroned King of kings and Lord of lords which includes
a commitment by the family to the New Evangelization promoting the
Kingdom of God on earth. The family sanctified by the Lord through the
covenant of the Enthronement responds by being more zealous in its
evangelizing efforts and in this way helps to promote the social reign
of the Sacred Heart.

“If lived in all its authenticity, it will provide a powerful witness leading to the transformation of society and will truly help build a civilization of love.”
- Dr. Timothy O'Donnell, President, Christendom College

“Welcome the presence of the Heart of Christ, entrusting your home to Him, seek to draw from His open Heart the healing love that is so necessary
for families today to build a civilization of love.”
- Pope St. John Paul II

There is an urgency that His presence be welcomed in everyday family life.

“The new evangelization depends largely on the domestic church.”
- Pope Benedict XVI

“The family is the driving force of the world and of history.”
- Pope Francis

Our Lord Jesus Christ made many promises to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque that those who honor His Sacred Heart “I will establish peace in their families. . .”

“I will bless every place where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored . . .” and “I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.”

The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the answer for families.
These promises are the same, yesterday, today and forever!

History of the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

To those who would devote themselves to His Heart, Jesus offered many specific promises that have come to be promulgated as the “Twelve Promises.”  In one of these, Our Loving Savior wondrously stated:

I will bless the homes in which the image of My Sacred Heart
                                      shall be exposed and honored.

Father Mateo Crawley-Boevey, born in 1857 in Arequipa, Peru, was a member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.   He struggled for many years with precarious health, and it was while visiting the shrine of the Apparitions of the Sacred Heart in Paray-le-Monial, that he experienced a remarkable healing.  His visit and recovery proved the catalyst for the bold plan he conceived – to conquer the world for the Sacred Heart of Jesus, family by family; person by person.

Pope Saint Pius X "commanded" Father Mateo to devote his life henceforth to this work of Christian and social regeneration.  And so, the humble priest who became known as the Apostle of the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart, launched the Enthronement Movement.  Father Mateo’s idea was to help families develop a deeper interior awareness of Christ’s presence in the home as Lord, King and Friend and a public acknowledgement of this by the installation of his image in their home. As a consequence the family members would be so permeated with the love of Christ, they would as a matter of course, be reminded of the commitment to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as they gaze upon His image.

He traveled all over the world for forty years, conducting missions and imploring families not to leave Jesus standing on their doorstep. He was completely dedicated to establishing the “social reign of Jesus and the empire of His love.” Father Mateo passed away in 1960, but his work has been carried on by individual priests and lay promoters to this very day.

Your Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Enthronement Ceremony is just the beginning for you. It is a public proclamation of your devotion to Jesus as the King of your Heart, as your Brother and your Friend for life. Through your devotion, He will become an active member of your household and an abiding Presence in your life.

Enthronement is for everyone: A single person, a family, a business owner, a seminarian, a resident of a nursing home -- and the list goes on.  The Sacred Heart can be enthroned anywhere and in any dwelling, as long as there has been adequate preparation and He is given a prominent place of honor and respect.   Accordingly, words such as “Home” and “Family,” which appear throughout the booklet, may be substituted with words that apply to your particular situation.

The preparation for the ceremony contained herein is a three day period, which can be extended, if individuals or families feel that they would like to do more. The lay promoters will assist with this and help you to secure the items needed for the Enthronement ceremony. Use the preparation period to ask questions and allow it to be a time of formation for you, as you enter into this devotion as a way of life.

The ceremony itself may take several forms and may be officiated by a priest, deacon or designated lay promoter (or any combination of the three). It may be accompanied by a Mass (usually the Votive Mass of the Sacred Heart), which would be ideal, but it is not required.

The most important aspect of this experience is the inestimably rich love of Jesus that will flow from His Sacred Heart to yours!  Be open, be joyfully expectant and welcome Him. HE is your King, HE is your Remedy – and HE is on the way!

                                          Amen!  Come, Lord Jesus!
